About Me

hiking

I am currently an Economics Ph.D. candidate at Boston College. In addition to research, I am teaching machine learning, econometrics, and economic theory-related courses as a graduate instructor. Recently, I completed the data science fellowship program at The Data Incubator. When I am not busy with research or side projects, you can find me kitesurfing, coding, snowboarding, or hiking.

My principal research focuses on market design, which studies how economic outcomes are affected by the rules and operations regulating the marketplace. My recent paper with my coauthor develops an applied algorithm using statistics and graph theory to improve social and economic impact, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Court's objections and public protests in India inspired us to formalize an affirmation action issue. We document merit in debated proposals but also faults. We present an alternative solution and measure the impact by running simulations on 12k jobs.

I spent my undergraduate years in the chaotic, vibrant, and beautiful city of Istanbul. I hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineer and a B.S. in Mathematics from Bogazici University. During my college years, I was a member of the snowboarding team and competed in various college snowboard championships. I have always loved solving brain teasers and math problems. During my pre-university years, I received multiple gold medals in the national math olympiads and was in the Turkish Team at the International Mathematical Olympiads.

I will be joining Akuna Capital as a Junior Quantitative Developer in September 2022.
